Blue Day
You ever just wake up in a bad mood? I did today. When I woke up this morning I was depressed as hell, but there was no apparent reason for it. Days like this suck. There was a time when they occured quite often for me, but are quite rare now (thankfully). Usually I just listen to some music, but I realize that even the albums that convey soft soothing melodies (eg. August and Everything After) often throw in up-beat songs in the middle of them so that you don't drink yourself away before the release of the band's next album. My roommate in college never liked to listen to sad songs when he was in a bad mood cuz he said he couldn't understand why you would want to make yourself more depressed. For me it's more of a "I'm in a pissy mood, I need to know that someone else has felt the same way before." If you don't understand it, you never will...congrats. For those of you that do, though, I made myself a mixed cd without any of the up-beat, life is great songs in the middle of it. Here's the play list:
1. Black Sheep (Live) - Martin Sexton
2. More Than Anyone - Gavin DeGraw
3. Burning Bridges - Jason Mraz
4. Today - Joshua Radin
5. Through Dreams - Bo
6. Boston and St. Johns - Great Big Sea
7. Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits
8. Black and Blue - Counting Crows
9. Colorful - The Verve Pipe
10. You'll Think of Me - Keith Urban
11. Closer to Fine - Indigo Girls
OK, I know, some of these songs don't seem like they belong. First of all, Through Dreams is one of my songs, but beyond the blatant, narcisitic, egocentrism, I think it's a good song, and it comes from a very sad, very real place so it fits. Secondly, Closer to Fine is an upbeat song with a hint of hope in it...that's why it's last. Though I wouldn't put it in the middle of the cluster-fuck of depression, it fits at the end. That's about all I got...off to study for my final final. Wish me luck.
Much Love,
Bo
